Marry me.

Sunday's Favorite Selection #15:

Side note: Just the other day I finished watching all of Arrested Development. I've only seen tiny parts of it here and there, but just a few weeks ago Jeff let me borrow the series. Wow. I can't stop doing all of the chicken dances.

Haha! I own the entire series on DVD and this really puts me in the mood to watch some episodes.

I've noticed that doing Portia de Rossi's chicken dance (chalky, chalky, chalky) serves as a good barometer when meeting new people. If I do it and they recognize it, we'll very likely get along. If I do it and they look confused, we likely don't have much in common. More often than not I've found this to be accurate.

And I think Arrested Development says something very interesting about the nature of high quality art. It's a revered show because it's well-written and well-performed...but also because it only lasted three short seasons before being (unjustly) canceled.

There seems to be an inverse relationship between brilliance and length of time...as the latter increases, the former often decreases. There are exceptions, of course, but I feel this formula is largely true.

It's as if the best career move anyone can ever make is quitting IMMEDIATELY after you become successful. I think that's a fascinating, and somewhat discouraging, phenomenon.
